How to play

Win the chips. Make the best hand of five from your two cards and the five on the table, or bet so the others fold. Lose your chips and you are out; the last one with chips wins.

The hands, best first

Royal flush. Ace, King, Queen, Jack and 10 of one suit: the best hand there is.

Straight flush. Five in a row, all one suit.

Four of a kind. Four cards of one rank.

Full house. Three of one rank and two of another.

Flush. Five of one suit, not in a row.

Straight. Five in a row, any suits. An Ace can start one too: A, 2, 3, 4, 5.

Three of a kind. Three cards of one rank.

Two pair. Two pairs; the higher pair decides first.

Pair. Two cards of one rank.

High card. None of the above: the highest card decides.

A hand

The button moves round the table each hand, and the two players after it put in the blinds, the small one and the big one (with two players, the button puts in the small one). Everyone gets two cards only they see. Then come four rounds of betting: before the flop, after the flop (three cards on the table), after the turn (a fourth) and after the river (a fifth).

Betting

On your turn, Check when nothing has been bet, Call to match the bet, Raise to bet more, or Fold and sit the hand out. A raise is at least the size of the last one, and never less than the big blind. All in bets every chip you have; you can then win only as much from each player as you put in, and a side pot takes the rest.

The showdown

After the river, the players still in show their cards and the best hand of five wins the pot. Equal hands split it. If everyone else folds, the last player wins it at once and the cards stay unseen. When the players still in are all in, their cards are shown and the rest of the board is dealt.

The blinds

Everyone starts with 1,500 chips and the blinds at 10 and 20. They go up every 10 hands on Slow, 6 on Normal and 3 on Fast, so a game always ends. A player with no chips left is out.

Controls

Fold, Check or Call, and Raise sit under the slider, which sets your raise (or tap Min, ½ pot, Pot or All in). Next hand deals the next one. Players, Blinds and Computer set the next game.

A game against the computer is kept in this browser and comes back paused, and so is Sound’s choice. A friends’ game goes through a small server that shuffles, deals, plays the empty seats and sends each player only their own cards; it forgets the game a day after the last move.
