- Convert opens JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP and SVG with your browser’s own reader, and HEIC with libheif (LGPL), loaded only for a HEIC. AVIF is written by libavif, and WebP on Safari by libwebp (both BSD, through jSquash, Apache-2.0); every one of them is kept on this site.
- A photo’s turn is put right before it’s saved again, so one a phone stored sideways comes out upright; then where it was taken, the camera and the date are left out.
- Under a size tries qualities until the best that fits: JPG, WebP and AVIF have one.
- A moving GIF or WebP keeps its first frame.
- Location only takes the hidden notes (EXIF, XMP, text) out of a JPG, PNG or WebP without opening the picture, so it isn’t saved again; a JPG keeps its turn.
